One of the most common problems nowadays is the bad smell in the bathroom. Whether the bathroom in our home or in a rental property we have to fight this unpleasant factor. As we have already said, the bathroom is the place of our well-being. For this reason, the fragrance inside must be good and the reasons for the bad smells are removed. In this post, we will not talk about how to prevent them, but how to remove them after their occurrence.
First we need to find out what is causing the bad smell. The most common factors are mold, dirt, canal and old towels.
Let’s start with the mold. When we think there is mold in the bathroom or it is visible to the naked eye, it would be good to get a really strong detergent to remove it. Many people think that after washing the joints and tiles with warm water and brush and visibly gett rid of the mold in the bathroom, it goes into history. Unfortunately, that is not correct. If we really want to clean the mold in the bathroom for a long-term we need to use strong detergent and brush. The chemical elements remove the mold in depth and do not allow it to re-occur.
The second most common reason for bad smells in the bathroom is the dirt behind cabinets, shelves, around the shower and the blender, around the door and window, and also in the fan if you have one in the bathroom. Again with a strong detergent, these spaces should be cleaned and sanitized. In order to achieve a better effect, it is desirable to clean all of them just in case. If you do not see dirt around the fan, it does not mean it is not there. Open it and clean to prevent bad smells from being hidden behind the box or grid. One can find a lot of dirt behind and under the cabinets of his bathroom, as well as around the door and window which starts to produce a bad smell. We can not see the dirt every time, but it’s there in a microscopic form. Take again a strong detergent and clean thoroughly.
Third place – surprise, surprise! – the SEWER. To clean it we have to take three steps. First, remove the sewer grid and wash it thoroughly. It would be good to soak it in a detergent for 24 hours. Second, clear the sewer in its visible part with detergent and boiling water. Lastly, take a shower head and pour a large amount of boiling water with the detergent into the canal. This way you will be 100% sure you have sanitized it.
Finally, let’s discuss the towels in the bathroom. These should be changed every three or four days if you do not want them start smelling badly. Very often, in regular use, the towels in the bathroom are soaked in water and mildew. This leads to a bad smell and unpleasant sensation when used.
